Reggae Girls
The second album by the Senegalese singer/songwriter Akon is an album where he tries to deliver many messages to his audience. Some of the songs on this album were actually written when Akon sat in the joint. The album is packed with emotions for all that matters in his life. It seems that the things that matter in his life are girls and his home continent.
“Konvicted” delivers a rhythmical experience that I at least did not expect. Not only that, Akon shows the diversity on this album that later will be one of his trademarks. He varies from reggae to ballads to the more expected hip-hop. It is really impressing to hear what Akon is capable of. This album took quite a while to finish, but the reason for that was that Akon is a highly sought after writer. During this year he has contributed to over 40 songs with other artists.
While the two most known singles “Smack That” and “I Wanna Love You” are in the expected rap category, you will find songs that are more surprising. “Mama Africa” has an African theme, “Never Took The Time” tilts more against R&B and then you have the hip-hop fueled “Blown Away”. It is all a great mix of passion from an exceptionally good writer and artist.
What you have to think about when you listen to “Konvicted” is Akon’s background. He grew up under poor conditions in Senegal. When he was seven he moved to New Jersey. As with a lot of other foreigners moving to the U.S., he had problems findings his place in the American society. In his attempts to get respect and getting noticed, he turned to crime. He has actually done three years for stealing a car. In an interview Akon stated that he didn’t regret anything he had done. He felt that he wouldn’t be where he is today if it wasn’t for his past.
If you have not gotten your hands on a copy of “Konvicted”, you really should, because it is an amazing album.
Why do girls like to mess with the radio in your car?
I usually listen to my cd’s which are mostly hip-hop, r&b or reggae (depending on my mood). I think the songs that are on the radio are garbage. why do women to change a man’s radio to what THEY want to listen to. I don’t have a BIG problem with this, but if I’m driving you, you should have the respect to not touch my radio.
because they want to listen to what THEY want to listen to…..
I just let em do it for the most part, it’s a nice gesture to let them have their music and generally will make everyone happier as long as I don’t mind what they put on…..pretty much most the girls I hang out with listen to similar music I listen too….
plus since it’s my car and my Ipod usually, I pretty much like everything I have on there so i give them full control over it because if I pick a song I like then they may not like it, but if they pick a song they liek then I’ll for sure like it because it’s on my ipod!
but if I REALLY HATE what they are listening to i’ll say something! Absolutely no Muse! and NO Miley Cyrus!! Generally they would understand since they wouldn’t want to hear a song that THEY hate.
So instead of thinking about HER controlling your radio, you should think of it more like both of you reaching middle ground on music you both like…but having good manners and letting your guest pick the song…
